  • Write down unhealthy communications patterns
  • Make a list of major relationship barriers
  • Record the repeated cycle of pain on a piece of paper
  • Write down issues that have typically been “off-limits” for discussion
  • Identify major sources of fighting and bickering

We have found that if both people in the relationship do some work before the counseling process begins, the relationship moves much closer to a place of healing once couples therapy starts. Taking these steps are by no means easy and can cause discomfort. With that shared, the reason you want to come to couples counseling is to move past these barriers and arrive at a place of relational restoration and repair.
