Men, Kissing and Culture
The truth is, a lot of men and women have no earthly idea how to kiss. This makes sense when you consider the fact that the role models historically offered have been less than helpful. Most guys I know either learned how to kiss from watching some dude in a movie or parroting the actions of an actor on TV.
Some of the guys I know who think of themselves as jocks feel they don’t need to know about kissing because they think they are “all that”. Well dudes, if you are reading this you need to think again! Being a muscle dude will only get you so far.
Kissing with Passion
My hope in this article is to help teach you how to kiss someone with passion and do it in a way that with pleasurable for both of you. As mentioned earlier, the ability to kiss right can be a deal breaker in terms of dating. While kissing may seem somewhat intuitive, the reality is there is an art to the whole thing.
Kissing Input from Women and Men
I can share with you that the topic of kissing comes up a lot in counseling with couples and individuals. The old saying is true – you can tell a lot from a kiss!
And so what follows is kissing advice for men and applies to straights and gays alike. I’ve talked to hundreds of people (women and men) who have shared with me what they want in a passionate kiss and now, finally, a kissing guide for guys can be revealed.

Step 1: Check Your Breath
This mean seem like an obvious point but it is worth mentioning. If you know you are in a situation where the chance of intimate contact of the kissing kind might happen, make sure you carry some breath mints or gum. If you are in a jam and do not have gum, try to get your hands on some hard candy. The idea is to mask any nastiness in your breath and add a bit of sweetness (flavor) for what may come.
Step 2: Keep your eyes open
Kissing another person means being able to experience all of them, including their reactions when you are making out. At least initially, try to look into the person’s eyes when you are about to kiss. I am not saying you should stare at the person. Instead, simply look into the person’s eyes and keep a steady gait just before the magical lip-lock.
Step 3: Lean in
Depending upon your physical proximity and if you are sitting or standing, you will likely need to lean into the person you are kissing in order to have proper control over the situation. Girls let themselves be kissed. Guys need to focus on being in control. Hopefully, both of you are leaning in to make the kiss explosive. If you just sit there like a bump on a log, it is going to be a major turn off for the person you are mack’n with.
Step 4: Tilt your head
The art of kissing means being able to adjust your head regularly during the “kiss” experience. After you look into the person’s eyes and lean into the moment, you will want to tilt your head slightly to the left or right. If you are right handed, you likely will gravitate towards tilting to the right. If you are left handed, you will tilt that way. Regardless, the important thing is that you tilt. Watch him to see which way the person you are kissing tilts first and then go the opposite direction.
Step 5: Start off gentle
A passionate, romantic kiss starts off a bit slow, kind of like a dance that gradually gets faster. At this point, no open mouth stuff should be going on. Instead, you are both simply feeling out one another’s lips. Step 6: Rest your hands on the hips
At least initially, place your hands on the person’s hips. Do not reach for sacred areas, unless the both of you are looking for a hookup. If the person is someone you seriously want to date, it is best to keep your hands on their hips and eventually start moving them upwards, towards the back and perhaps neck area.
Step 7: Open Mouth Time
If things are going well, you will know when the time comes for the open mouth (French Kissing) business to begin. With your mouth open, gently touch the other person’s tongue with your tongue, then pull your tongue back to your own mouth.
Again, the operative word here is GENTLE. Also, avoid rotating your head back and forth as it can become confusing for the other person regarding which way you are heading.
Finally on this point, when it gets to the point of going open mouth, pull your date up close to you so that you are close. Here, I am saying you should be a bit aggressive.
Step 8: Growl
This tip is optional but if you want to growl a bit, kind of like an animal, go for it. This can be a big turn on for your date. Obviously, use discretion here. If the person you are kissing seems like they is into the kiss, the verbal sounds (if kept to a minimum) can be fun.
Step 9: Whisker burn
One other bit of kissing advice – you can give giving a gentle whisker burn to your date. Don’t scratch their face! Instead, very gently brush your scruffy face against theirs. Rub your scruff along their face, neck and ears. Again, the idea here is to send some chills down your date’s spine, not to screw up their face!
Step 10: Smile
Occasionally, smile during your kiss. Just a little smile here and there to let your date know you are enjoying the experience. If it feels right, they will be grinning ear to ear.
Final Thoughts
The art of kissing takes time to master. Much of the process is organic and depends upon the chemistry between the people involved in the moment. The 10 simple steps here are designed to give you a basic blue-print.
