Relationship Expectations Too High?

Relationship Expectations too High?

Recently, a few friends of mine got together at my house for a poker game where the topic of relationships came up. Out of the six of us sitting at the card table, four were in relationships – plus me.

As the game got underway, a few of the guys started complaining about their relationships, talking smack about how they felt “unappreciated” and “disrespected” by their girlfriend/boyfriend (it was a mixed crowd).

One of my bozo buds specifically shared that his girlfriend never paid for meals. Another friend complained about his husband not making enough money. [/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”456″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded” border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_self” img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]After an hour of hearing non-stop whining, I turned to all of them and asked – what have you done for your partner lately?

The silence was deafening.

Feeling Entitled

One of the things I notice with a lot men (not all – but a lot) are feelings of entitlement. For example, some think that just because they pay for their significant other’s dinner or they clean the house, their mate somehow owes them something in return.  While I do not think a relationship should be one sided, I do think some of us have awfully high expectations in a relationship.

Is it any wonder why so many men and women are hopelessly single?[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]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[/vc_raw_html][vc_column_text]

Relationship Expectations

The poker game (which I lost) got me to thinking more about this business of relationships and expectations – with particular focus on how a partner may perceive us. This sparked a few questions that I thought I would post here as a way of getting some of us to think more clearly about dating and relationships relationships. These are really universal questions that can apply to anyone. Here they are.

Five Questions:

  1. Are you putting into the relationship what you expect in return?
  2. Is your list of “requirements” for your spouse realistic?
  3. When’s last time you spontaneously did something for your spouse?
  4. Is it possible you are sabotaging your relationship with false expectations?
  5. Can you accept your guy/gal for who they are?

Give Them a Kiss Just Because

I won’t go on about this topic except to ask you here – what have you done for your partner lately? If you are struggling to answer the question like my friends at the poker table, it may be a time to do a serious “self-check” in the mirror.

Here is one thing you can do right now – give the person you love in your life a kiss just because. If you can, please vote in the poll below and share.

Peace out![/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”464″ alignment=”center” border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_self” img_size=”full”][vc_raw_html]JTNDY2VudGVyJTNFJTNDc2NyaXB0JTIwdHlwZSUzRCUyMnRleHQlMkZqYXZhc2NyaXB0JTIyJTIwY2hhcnNldCUzRCUyMnV0Zi04JTIyJTIwc3JjJTNEJTIyaHR0cCUzQSUyRiUyRnN0YXRpYy5wb2xsZGFkZHkuY29tJTJGcCUyRjgwMTY1NjkuanMlMjIlM0UlM0MlMkZzY3JpcHQlM0UlMEElM0Nub3NjcmlwdCUzRSUzQ2ElMjBocmVmJTNEJTIyaHR0cCUzQSUyRiUyRnBvbGxkYWRkeS5jb20lMkZwb2xsJTJGODAxNjU2OSUyRiUyMiUzRURvJTIweW91JTIwc2hvdyUyMHlvdXIlMjBsb3ZlJTIwZW5vdWdoJTNGJTNDJTJGYSUzRSUzQyUyRm5vc2NyaXB0JTNFJTNDJTJGY2VudGVyJTNF[/vc_raw_html][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/1″][vc_raw_html]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[/vc_raw_html][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_raw_html]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[/vc_raw_html][/vc_column][/vc_row]
